Alex Anthopoulos says it's possible that the Toronto Blue Jays will look to trade their surplus of relievers this offseason.
"The club's surplus of relievers is one area of depth we might have that could be attractive to other teams," he said. "We were asked about a lot of our guys in July and I don't know how the offseason's going to go, but it will not surprise me if maybe we use some of that depth to help the club in some other areas."
Raicel Iglesias has been detained by Cuban authorities for attempting to defect, according to multiple sources.
The 23-year-old right-hander was hiding in the mountains of Isla de la Juventud until Thursday when he left searching for food and water.
The San Francisco Giants have publicly stated that they would like to re-sign Tim Lincecum, who can hit the open market a few days after the World Series.
"We've begun those discussions and hopefully there's an opportunity to bring Timmy back and in short order," vice president Bobby Evans said. "That's our hope. We don't intend to wait if Timmy's willing to work with us right now. And that's the impression I'm getting -- that they're willing to work with us."
Lincecum has said that he would like to explore free agency.
Josh Donaldson might be a player the Oakland Athletics would like to sign long-term and he seems open to the idea.
Donaldson is on track to be a "super two" player, reaching arbitration after two years of service time rather than the more usual three years.
Donaldson said he and his agent, Hunter Bledsoe, have talked about the possibility of a multiyear deal "and we absolutely love it," Donaldson said. "But it has to be good for both sides. I have really enjoyed my time here."
The Milwaukee Brewers plan to contact the agent for Jean Segura this winter to open discussions on a possible contract extension, according to Doug Melvin.
The 23-year-old is hitting .295/.330/.425 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs this season.
Having signed Hunter Pence to a five-year deal, the San Francisco Giants have moved on to another free-agent-to-be.
The Giants are now working to sign Tim Lincecum to a contract extension.
